You probably know the feeling: you see a nice second-hand pram online and think… “It looks good, but is it really good?”
That exact question is what we at Parenthings keep in mind all day long.
Our platform is not just about great deals, but especially about trust. In this blog, we'll take you behind the scenes: what happens to a product before you see it on our site?
In the video below, you'll see step-by-step how a pram goes through our process – from arrival to being ready for a new adventure.
Where our products come from
The products on Parenthings come from various sources: from private individuals, stores, brands, and refurbishers who work with premium baby products. Think of:
- parents who want their pram or buggy to have a second life
- showroom models or returns from stores
- professionally refurbished products from specialized parties
What do they have in common? They have enough quality and lifespan for another family – but they must pass our checks before you see them on our platform.
Step 1: Arrival & initial check
As soon as a pram, buggy, or other product arrives at one of our partners or refurbishers, it starts with registration and an initial visual inspection.
We then look at things like:
- Is the frame intact and straight?
- Do the main functions work (brake, folding mechanism, straps)?
- Are there any major damages or parts that immediately stand out?
Only if a product passes this initial hurdle does it proceed in our process. It's a kind of "gatekeeper" moment: only what has potential moves forward.
Step 2: Technical inspection with checklist
After that, each product is technically inspected using a fixed checklist. Not a quick glance, but truly part by part.
Among other things, we test:
- Safety – brakes, harnesses, fasteners, locks
- Construction – frame, hinges, connections
- Functionality – folding mechanism, adjustable backrest, wheels
- Completeness – important parts and accessories
Where necessary, parts are repaired or replaced. The goal: the product must be safe, stable, and pleasant to use again, as you would expect from a premium product – whether it comes from a store or from a family a few streets away.
Step 3: Refurbish where necessary
Some products need a little extra love. In that case, it goes to a refurbisher specializing in baby products.
Think of:
- replacing worn wheels or tires
- renewing or repairing upholstery
- adjusting or securing parts
This way, we responsibly extend the lifespan of a product. Not "just a quick polish," but truly refurbishing where necessary.
Step 4: Thorough cleaning
Baby + stroller = crumbs, milk, sand, mud… you know how it goes. That's why every product gets a thorough cleaning.
We:
- clean fabric parts with suitable, mild detergents
- remove stains where possible
- thoroughly clean the frame and wheels
- pay attention to hygiene and material-friendly care
It remains a second-hand product, so minor signs of use may be present. But it must be fresh, clean, and pleasant to use.
Step 5: Honest and clear description
Once the technical check and cleaning are complete, we document the product's actual condition – in words.
In the description, we mention:
- the condition of the product (for example: "light signs of use on the frame")
- any visible damages or wear
- what is precisely included
We do not use separate photos for each individual product to show every sign of use, but we are as concrete as possible in the text. Better to be a little too honest than too vague: this way you know what to expect.
Step 6: Final quality check
Before a product goes live on Parenthings, we do a final check:
- Does the description match the actual condition?
- Are all important parts present?
- Have all steps in the process been completed?
Only then does the product get a spot on our platform. This way, we ensure that what you read online closely matches what will be delivered to your home.
Why we are so precise about this
Baby products are not "nice extras." They are items you rely on daily: for your child's safety and your convenience. That's why we set the bar high.
This provides three important things:
- Safety – products are not just passed on, but genuinely checked.
- Peace of mind – you don't have to technically evaluate everything yourself.
- Sustainability with confidence – you choose reuse, without compromising on quality.
See it for yourself in the video

So the next time you scroll through Parenthings and see a beautiful pram, you'll know: there's a whole process behind it. With attention, many checklists, and a bit of love for reuse.
